Kent Van Cleave
This is a page for those who might be interested in the talk I gave at the 2004 Eris Society Conference, "How to Get a Naturalized Ethics."
Here are some links that will allow you to revisit the topic:
And a variety of presentations of the key ideas in the talk, found at my Evolution and Philosophy website:
- My M.A. thesis from Arizona State. From the Table of Contents, you can go directly to the most relevant sections concerning subjective and objective value.
- My paper "Metaethical Functionalism" offers much the same argument (with additional material covered) in an academic style. This is much more focused on the topic of my Eris talk than is the more wide-ranging thesis above.
- The third section of "Overview of the Philosophy" -- the most informal and chatty account I have on offer. This is probably the place to go if you were struggling with the technical philosophical terms and concepts I was using.
