Welcome to the home of "Metaphysical Functionalism" (or, with respect to ethics, "Metaethical Functionalism" or "Panvitalism"), which applies evolutionary theory to help illuminate the nature, origins, and practice of philosophy. It offers what I think are fascinating implications for psychology, the philosophy of mind, and many other areas of inquiry -- including the "unholy grail" of philosophy, a naturalized ethics (in the form of axiology)!
Here you can learn about evolutionary theory, metaethics, metaphysics, functionalism, ethics (especially axiology), philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, and much more. Read philosophical papers online, enjoy discussions on our Message Board, participate in our website poll, follow fascinating links, learn about important books, and more!
The centerpiece of this website is my M.A. thesis, "The Failure of Gibbard's Norm-Expressivism: A Functionalist Explanation." That, along with papers leading up to it and following it, present a radical view concerning what deserves to be called 'intrinsic value' and how it can be defined as a physical property.
